move. dance. be born

So, this weekend was my sister's dance competition, which i competed in for about 7 years with the Encore Dance Company (Camp Hill, PA). This always gives me a lot to talk about, whether i was in it or not. There is much to talk about this year and I can't wait to get started!

Issue 1: Dance Explosion
Dance Explostion, which i believe was centered
near Baltimore, MD, did not return this year to the All American Talent Awards. To many of you, this seems like nothing, but if you have ever attended this competition before, you would quickly realize that this completely changes the dynamic of the competition. First of all, what are we going to do without the bikini-like costumes and the screaming stage parents? My life isn't complete without a little mother-daugther-dance teacher spat just before a number begins (these spats usually arise out of a costume problem or the fact that their child is not in front). Their failure to return could have many causes. Some speculated that they were ejected from All American for a time because of their provocitive garments. This cannot be so, because many dancers returned with similar outfits. Others say that they went on to bigger and better things. yeah, right. They were good, but i have a feeling that we would have heard about it. also, a one A.S. would not have defected to another dance team. The real reason (in my mind) is that they did not win enough last year. The judges were no longer biased towards them and they simply could not handle this crushing blow. Because of the lack of Dance Explosion (and a few other staple companies that also did not return), Encore Dance dominated a number of the categories.

Issue 2: The Overuse of Popular Music
In the past, I went to All American and came home with all kinds of new showtunes and songs to fill my computer with. This year I did not. First of all, the songs "Lose Control", "Yeah", and Kelly Clarkson's "Addicted" must have been used 8 times each, at least. Seriously. If a song was on the top 10 in the last year, this is what will happen. My senior year, there were 3 Cell Block Tango's and one spoof. Also, no one seemed to want to use good music. There were some real stinkers. Someone even danced to "Mary, did you know?" dressed as a vague virgin Mary. I didn't hear any new showtunes this year. They were all from Rent, Chicago, or Fosse.

Issue 3: Little Kids
This is personal, but it burns me when there are small children dancing better than the older girls. It took me years to learn a foite turn, and this weekend i witnessed 8 year olds doing them perfectly. ouch to my ego.

Issue 4: Encore Dance Company
My home team. They did awesome this year, as most years. However, i think they now realize that they have a Terrell Owens in their midst, but as John pointed out to me, at least Terrell Owens was good at football. One for John. But seriously...grow up and get over yourselves.

Finally, I saw Rent this weekend, and i enjoyed it. The only complaint that i have (and i always have one) is that they put in dialouge. It's cool to put in dialouge, but at least put enough dialouge in to get a thought out and use something other than what was sang in the stage show. It sounds like they're mocking themselves, much like you would speak-sing a song to be funny.

Oh! Listen for me on New Brain this week. Wednesday at 11 on wexp ( www.wexpradio.com)

i'm peachy!

life of a woman or a man...

so, it's good to be home. warm bed, good food (although all i've eaten is take-out thus far, but i'm anticipating here), and my family. i havn't really seen anyone yet, save for the people who attended the cumberland county chorus concert last night at EP.

currently i'm just waiting for sarah, so i can take her to dance and do a little christmas shopping. ugh. i just realized that i have little to say. so, that's all for now. probably more after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade tomorrow. hehe...balloons.

i'm peachy

a funny thing happened while performing "forum"

as my title suggests, something happened while i was in "a funny thing happened on the way to the forum" the past two weekends. i realized how much i love the masque. we have our drama and our bad eggs (what group doesn't), but for the most part we just love being together. during green room, i hugged everyone because i love everyone in the show. we loved the show too. we all sat around the moniter together to watch the show every night, even though we have seen it over 30 times by now. the cast party the other night solidified it all. i talked, danced, kissed, hugged, and partied with everyone there. everyone bonded. in everyway. i got to see most of my masque family (my mom, grandmom, aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc...except my sisters.) and everyone seemed to enjoy john too. (he enjoyed himself thoroughly as well and has 9 la salle facebook friends...and counting).

i want my cast mates to know how much this show has meant to me. i'm really going to miss spending every evening with you all, and now i have to do papers. this was an amazing experience and i hope something comes along again that can try to compare.

wow.

finally, improv 101 show (we ain't no jive turkeys!) at the dan rodden theater at 8pm tomorrow night. be there or be square.

i'm also not leaving lampoonary news.

see you all after turkey day, for my computer at home crashed the other day and is officially fried.

i'm peachy.

PROTEAN LOVE.

a freak gasoline fight accident

to update my faithful readers (ok...just lou), i have decided to stay on lampoonery news for the second semester. why, you ask? i have no clue. i think i'm a people pleaser...i should just learn to please myself first.i have a lot of history reading i could be doing, but obviously that is getting thrown by the wayside so that i could update my pathetic blog for no one and apply for an internship with CAKE.

today, the collegian came out. there were a large number of extremely interesting articles, such as a review of "...forum" and an article about improv 101's upcoming events. there was also an article concerning the shopping center that is planned for the rear of the good shepard lot and scheduled to open in spring 2007 (cool...my junior year). while everything about the center itself sounds great and i'm really pleased that the community is taking the initiative to better the area, i was shocked to read that the community outside la salle does not want this grocery store/shopping mall in their midst. they don't la salle to have anymore community property. fine...you can miss out on a convienient area to do errands and a great employment oppurtunity because you are still sore about the 20th street thing? man, if i lived here, i would be livid too. oh, that's right. i do live here. and i want a fresh grocer someplace where i don't have to comendere a driver and vehicle everytime i need milk and sour cream. i don't understand these people sometimes. they can get up in arms everytime we try to make the streets of Olney/North Philly safer and cleaner, but the constant muggings and shootings don't seem to garner one iota of response. it makes sense.

speaking of sour cream (read that paragraph, i did referrence sour cream), it is my favorite topping for everything. pretzels, steak, potatoes, tortilla chips, rice...pretty much everything. some shredded cheese and italian dressing dont' hurt the mix much either.

on my final note, i watched "the silence of the lambs" yesterday with the film as art class. i was petrified to view this 1991 best picture winner (that's for you, mike), but as i noted later, it was so intricate and amazing that i didn't care that one scene contained a cop hung angelically by his back skin. i may be weary of moths for a few weeks, but with the winter weather arriving with avengence, i have a feeling they won't be bothering me for a while.

i'm peachy.
comment...you know you want to.

maruchan instant lunch and taco bar.

today was pretty good. nothing special, just a day off. i got a lot done for my various papers and i studied for a test that at the last moment got moved to thursday. woo! i meant to clean my room, but alas, that did not occur. nothing really to report, aside from the fact that i actually have people coming this weekend to "forum" (which for those of you who aren't involved, went amazingly this weekend...standing ovations on the sat. night AND sun. matinee. go us!).

if you want tickets for this weekend, give me a call or drop me a line so i can reserve them for you...better seats that way.

he's in a coma...he had a very bad acid experience

the opening night of "a funny thing happened on the way to the forum" was amazing. the energy of the audience did wonders for this show, considering we've been running it for a couple of weeks now. we needed a boost. boy, did we get it. anything that anthony did, the audience ate up. they loved the horse, they loved the songs...what a lovely way to spend a friday evening. afterwards the cast and crew went to eric's for a little get together. i have signed the a-13 beer pong table, even though i didn't play. i also had a lovely chat with gwen and lou, then i called john and talked to him for a while. around 2 am, michele, sam, andrew, and i made our way to the manor. club 71 was still jumping...it was pretty awesome. snazzy, michele, and i had a little modified mu phi dance party and soon everyone joined in. about 3 am, we decided it was time to head home.

good times last night. tonight will be incredible too, but not as draining, as we have a matinee on sunday afternoon. here's the info, if you want it.

the color purple...on broadway?

it's true. "The Color Purple" is opening on Broadway on Dec. 1, 2005. Produced by Oprah Winfrey. and because i'm an avid Oprah watcher, i was privy to a sneak preview. thank you oprah for giving me one more reason not to see your musical.

how ridiculous.

i'm peachy...

best. night. ever.

it is currently 3:30 am on Friday, November 11th. and the end of an amazing day...there some dumb parts about it, but over all...amazing.

i got my history paper done...so i've got that going for me. and we got out of american studies early today. I did my thursday rental thing and got some woody allen films out of the library...i had to deal with creepy AV guy, but i'll cope. hell will freeze over when i actually watch "the falcon and the snowman". at tree tops for dinner, the meal ended with me spilling yellow powerade on my chair..and it ran down the middle and onto my crotch...so it looked like i had wet myself. great. and it was cold outside. that's the last thing i need...frostbite in the worst place possible. once i changed into my costume though, all was solved. ha. no. supposedly, a sorority thought it would be a great pledge activity to pull the union fire alarm. what am i wearing? a green tunic, my chucks and a belt...sexy, i know. i was able to grab my sweater and phone, but i did have to stand outside for a good 10 minutes. thanks assholes. to cap off my evening of mishap, i dropped my phone and it came completely apart...if it could fall off, it did. i was able to put it all back together and the phone seems fine. i hope so.

the final dress rehearsal went pretty well.

afterwards, caitlin, mike, chris, joanna, and i went to wawa (where i was able to get a fast break bar the length of my forearm). we also sang...that was fun. afterwards, mike, michele, caitlin, anthony, and i drove around screaming at people and singing before we went to the mayfair diner. good food. i got a pizza steak sandwich, which was excellent. our waitress, sissy, was amazing as well and we left her a hefty tip. to cap off an amazing late night, we witnessed the arrest of ugly horse face girl. she was probably driving drunk, but we can't be sure. all that we know is that we saw her being lead into a police car in handcuffs and there were a number of other cars, a tow truck, and an ambulence. sweet. michele and i just came back from an amusing chat with houli and JP and i'm now debating what movie to watch. i have off tomorrow and i plan on taking full advantage of that, now that my free fridays are numbered.

johnny, i hope you had a great opening night and i'm sorry i cannot make it. AV davey is representing la salle on saturday night, so that's about as good as i can do.

time for movie...and some sleep.

i'm peachyyyyzzzzzzz....

to do list: 10 celebrities

so, on my other journal i posted a list of the 10 celebrities that i would most like to sleep with, if i was so inclined. there are many others that i would add, and i probably could compile a list of 20 or so, but these are the top 10. enjoy, for what it's worth.

1. Paul Rudd - I have liked him for a long time...he just seems so cool. and cute. adorable, especially on Friends when he played Pheobe's fiancee/husband. Michele and I have discussed him extensivly, and we have decided that he's basically perfect. it doesn't hurt that he has been in some of the funniest movies ever, such as Anchorman, The 40 year old virgin, and Wet Hot American Summer.

2. Conan O'Brien - i'm a sucker for an Irish boy. and he's funny, which as you wil notice, helps you on this list. i'm currently watching him interview Paul Rudd...i may die, i'm not sure. I love seeing him every night before i go to sleep. he also kindly reminds michele and i to turn off the TV before Carson Daly comes on, so thank you Conan.

3. Steve Corell - after reading a number of articles about him and seeing interviews with him, he seems so nice...so i would do him. He is also hilarious and on the underrated "The Office". He is also twice my age (much like most of these people), but it doesn't really bother me. Probably because he's a celebrity and I really don't know him.

4. Luke Wilson - Good actor and such a cutie. i'll see anything he's in. Never Been Kissed, Legally Blonde 1 & 2, Old School, Anchorman...sigh. He just seems like the guy that I would get along with in a group of guys.

5. Matthew Broderick - Honestly, who wouldn't?

6. Owen Wilson - Also much like his brother, only the nose thing knocks him down a few pegs. Still...

7. Jack Lemmon (young, say the 1950's) - if you've ever seen Some Like It Hot, you'd understand...

8. Billy Crystal - again, old enough to be my dad, so let's put him in the 1980's...very funny

9. Harrison Ford - for the third time, younger. Let's say, 1970's, early eighties. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, American Graffiti...come on.

10. Prince William - the only not actor on my list...adorable, but in a seemingly functional relationship with a girl who i find to be acceptable...boo.

i'm peachy.

not penn state...bitch.

this weekend was spent (well, thursday to saturday morning) at Penn. The University of Pennsylvania is located in the heart of Philadelphia, founded in the 1700's by none other than Benjamin "the man" Franklin, yada, yada. This might have been one of the most awesome weekends ever. I got to spend a lot of time with Johnny, which is always a plus, but i also got to meet and get to know his friends and roommates. some pretty cool people, i must say. this includes Olivia, even though i didn't meet her. I just wore her clothes. thanks. I had a Happy Meal for the first time in probably 10 years and got a neato toy. I saw "Say Anything" for the first time and i loved it...especially the song "in your eyes" by peter gabriel. so good. we all went out for Chris' birthday to Sotto, an amazing restaurant on S. Broad Street. I got mozzerella and tomato with fresh basil and i also had some bread with cool dippings and the most amazing fried calamari. after the cab ride from HELL, we all watched "The South Park Movie: bigger, longer, and uncut". to think that i broke up with mike reynolds in 6th grade because he liked this show.

currently i'm having a colombo yogurt (peach, fruit on the bottom) and a strawberry dasani. i'm in the middle of making some cheesy ramen. this will all be followed by partying at the lacrosse house with improv 101. they invited us as a group. interesting, but freaking sweet.

i have 6 facebook friends at penn. they're all swell.

i'm peachy...ramen's done!!

Printemps....what the hell is printemps?

so yesterday i registered for my fourth semester at la salle university... actually, more pre-registered. my advisors signed off on the classes i wanted to take and we discussed requirements and stuff too. grady was quite pleased by my roster and it makes me wonder how people get through three years and then find out senior year that they didn't take some huge requirement. anyway, here's my shitastic schedule for spring, 2006.

mondays: i wake up bright and early for "American History Through Baseball" with none other than John Rossi. This class actually promises to be excellent, considering the course, the instructor and the awesome people i'm taking it with. at 10, i have "The Eternal Golden Braid". Please do not ask me to explain this to you. the best i can say is that it is a mix of math, puzzles, literature, and a master work of one sort or another. at noon, i have another triple re-mix class (yeah triple 2!) with dr. moreau for "American Philosophy". all that reading is going to suck. but i know dr. moreau, so i think i can handle it. a little break for lunch leads me to "Film as Art" with the famous Bill Wine at 2. This is my first class in the Com Center...this should be fun. Actually, this will probably be my favorite class of the new semester, considering that it's film...with bill wine. Finally, my Monday is ended with Biology 158 at Holroid. This is a requirement that i am getting out of the way now. The biggest problem with this is the fact that Holroid (which for non-la salle students is the science building) is the farthest academic building on campus from the Com Center. and i get 10 minutes to travel. score one for my legs.

Tuesday: one class...Film as Art screening. at 3:30. how 'bout that?

Wednesday is an exact repeat of Monday.

Thursday: off. how dumb.

Friday is nice because i have class only until 1. Film as Art meets three times (MTW) and Biology is an hour and 15 minutes, so it only meets twice a week.

Next semester is going to be big for me. I really hope to make it into one or both of the shows, and if i don't, i would love to be SM or AD. Especially for Red Herring, just to hang out with Tom Reing Monday thru Thursday. I also have a good feeling about getting into Shakespeare, but art is art and art is subjective. We also have inductions in the spring, and i definitly plan to take a baby. This will also be the last semester where i'm not preparing for my GRE's...ick. Finally, I plan on running for VP Personnel in the Masque for my junior year, so i have to work hard on that as well. And on applying for a Day One position over the summer. That would rock if i got it. three months with awesome la salle kids in the townhouses and a chance to stay in philly a few more months and tell kids how cool it is that they got into la salle. kick ass.

that's about it.

i'm peachy

Love isn't easy, but it's worth it.

i'm a hopeless romantic. i'll be the first to admit that, although i'm sure the people who read this know that already. as obsessed with the oscars as i am, i would much rather watch "when harry met sally..." or "annie hall" or even "runaway bride" than, let's say "the greatest show on earth" (which i think is one of the worst movies ever created...best picture 1952). what brings on this entry is my more advanced romantic mood as of late. no good reason, i just like thinking about love and such lately.

my favorite actors (wait for the connection to the first paragraph) are katharine hepburn and spencer tracy, both together and exclusive of each other. allow me to quickly recommend some films:
they made 9 films together...watch any of them. my personal favorites are "adam's rib" (1949), "woman of the year" (1942), and "guess who's coming to dinner?" (1967).
spencer tracy is a movie icon and he has a number of performances that exhibit to me what a real actor should be like. when i watch a spencer tracy film, i don't feel as if he was given a script, but that he is just saying what he would say in that situation. so natural. some recommendations: "boys town" (1938), "captain's courageous" (1937), and "inherit the wind".
katharine hepburn is the coolest actress of her generation. she didn't care what other people thought about her. she wore slacks (gasp!) and spent her time with the most powerful and wealthiest men of the time. some film suggestions: "the philadelphia story" (1940), "on golden pond" (1981) (ps: get the tissues ready...man, woman, insensitive jerk...you will cry).

the reason i bring these two up is that aside from being two of the most talented stars of their time and being a great on screen couple, they were a couple in real life, as disfunctional as they were. they had a 25 year long love affair, that was begun on their first movie together and ended only with spencer tracy's death in 1967. they were never married because tracy would not divorce his wife, louise. he was catholic, but also had a deaf son. his wife had opened a clinic for deaf children in honor of her son and all parties concerned realized that the star connection had to continue for funding purposes. if a picture can tell a story, i think this one tells theirs.

i hope you enjoyed this little trip into film history.

Tradition is the illusion of permanence - woody allen

i'm going through a woody allen phase...just a warning.

so, septa went on strike. boo.

i'm really tired today. i just want to sleep, but then i realize what i'll miss out on or what i won't get done by sleeping, so i put it off. i also need to do laundry...i think it'll be tonight, but i can't guarentee. i'm definitly making friday a lazy day with john. i have no desire to go out, at all.

what i do want to do (besides school work, which is odd that i want to do that) is watch movies! not just old movie, but for once, there are a number of films in theatre that i HAVE to see. "shopgirl" is supposed to be amazing. "rent". duh. "harry potter and the goblet of fire"...as inaccurate as those movies can be, i still have to see it. i'm sure there are others, but i really can't think of them at the moment.

also, i just pre-registered for my honors classes. i'm taking "american history through baseball" and "the eternal golden braid", which combines music, math, computer science, logic, puzzles, and lit all together in one course. i'm hopefully taking "film as art" and "biology 158" as well. my fifth class is still very much in the air.

that's really it. i think i am going to take a nap. zzzzzz....

i'm peachy. zzzzzzz.....
