what i did this evening

today was a pretty good day, overall. lettie came over (after i worked on the tree a whole bunch) and we watched "caddyshack". i love this movie...it's hilarious.

"so i've got THAT going for me".

after lettie left, i answered some alumni emails, which is what i spend most of my day doing lately. it's my own doing. anyway, some of the old heads want a reunion and they want to meet the current members of the masque too. oh my. what have i awakened? then my family had tacos. and were they good.

following dinner, i went to lettie's and from there we went to city island to mini-golf with amanda bover and nik, which was fabulous. i tied with nik for first too! always exciting. after that, we capped off the night with bruster's and a ride through the abyss that is floribunda. haha.

finally, after i thought i was having a great day, i get a comment on my blog. normally, these don't bother me, but this one did for some reason. now i'm all flustered. also, i found out that john came home today, and for some reason, i'm all tense about it. i'm not sure how i feel. i haven't seen him, but i probably will soon, so that will be the judge.

well, that's it for now. hope to see some of you soon (june 10-11, philly!).

i'm peachy.

fine.

i guess i can't take criticism, but i guess i'm done writing my musings. no, i'm not an expert and no i'm not writing these to put ideas into other people's head for any particular reason. i just wrote them because i wanted to.

i'm peachy.

The Art of Woo...ing: For additional study...

These are books and movies where I got my ideas for these two entries. They are for all.

Films:
Gone With the Wind
When Harry Met Sally...
Woman of the Year (mainly the beginning, but the end shows what happens when a female tries to woo...)
Say Anything (duh.)
Back to the Future (Marty is like a god of the woo...his life depended on it!)
Moulin Rouge! (both the right and wrong way to woo)
It's a Wonderful Life
The Princess Bride (as you wish...)
Anything pairing Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (except "Joe and the Volcano".)

Books:
Gone With the Wind
Nicholas Sparks...it's true. The man has mastered writing about the art of the woo.
Jane Eyre
Bronte sisters as a whole.
Pride and Prejudice

If you are going to woo her with a song, don't sing if you can't. Pull a John Cusak if you must. Go with a classic, nothing modern that hasn't proven itself as a lasting song. If it does become your song, you don't want to be stuck with the modern equivalent of Styx's "Babe" or something by the Backstreet Boys (unless you both love boy bands forever and always...).

i'm peachy.

the art of woo...ing. Part 2

The response to "The Art of Woo...ing" was overwhelming. Boys and girls alike responded (positively, I may add) to the entry (there were 9 total comments!) and I just wanted to expand on the topic further. First off, I'll give testimonials from the people who commented. I'll keep them anonymous, except for gender.

Anon. Male #1: "I usually got "What the fuck are you doing?" as a reply for being chivalrous... what would that constitute as?"

Well, that would constitute as a girl who is not worth your time. If the fuck was omitted, it might be a girl who simply cannot recognize wooing and another method of woo must be embarked upon. Perhaps something more subtle and not in public. Most wooing attempts are first made in public situations, such as parties, lunch rooms, and theatres (in this case). Girls are very much on their guard in these places from real assholes and generally treat every straight man as if they are the scum of the Earth to keep their guard up. It's nothing personal, generally, but just a protection mechanism. At least, that's my personal experience.

Anon. Male #2: "I'm chivalrous and gallant because it allows me to be painfully shy, which I usually am in those situations."

Ladies, take careful note to #2. A man who is shy is not necessarily disinterested, but respecting your boundries. They are good listeners. Great listeners, in fact. These guys have more classic ideas of romance and relationships, generally, so if you are that girl, they will sense that in you and you should definitly consider relationships on friend or romantic level with these fellows.

Anon. Male #3: "Wouldn't all of us guys like to believe that works, and that all you girls out there follow that. I've been trying chivalry and the whole nice without return thing for a long time."

Patience! If you want to find "that girl", it's not going to just happen. No one likes to be patient, but in romance, it's necessary. Rhett Butler spent years wooing Scarlett O'Hara just to find out that she was a frigid bitch. And he's Rhett Butler / Clark Gable! Something worth as much as true love doesn't happen over night, nor would you want it to. You want to have the stories to remind you what attracted you to a person other than "I had really good alcohol that night and she was wearing a halter". Not that the guys who read this feel that way anyway. Christ, I'm preaching to the choir. In short, be patient.

Anon. Male #4: "Wooing is pretty much the only way I fly, but it rarely works. I think it worked once for me and that was an excellent time. But now that the world of women is stagnant for me, especially in the wooing sense, I will not waste my time wooing. I won't get a girl drunk either. More or less, women are dead to me right now. I try too hard and get no results."

Statements like this are disheartening to me. First, it indicates that chivilary is not dead. He has tried so hard at this point that he has given up for the time being! Second, it reminds me that many modern ladies don't respond to the woo. It's hard to recognize, I'll admit. I'm sure I've completely overlooked wooing attempts, and to that I apologize. The interest does have to be mutual, but girls aren't giving these nice boys a chance. Instead, they're off with the guy who will take them to the party, but make them pay for themselves. Ladies, if a guy asks you to go somewhere with him specifically, he should be prepared to pay. If it's a group thing and you are not established as a couple, then pay for yourself. Don't be a gold digger. Kanye will not be pleased. Fellows, have hope in the females. There are a lot of us out there that DO respond to the woo.

Anon. Male #5: "Sadly, it doesn't always work, but hey, I enjoy trying and well, I'm sure all those nice guys out there will keep on wooing. So to all the guys out there, keep wooing, and to those girls who are being wooed, OPEN YOUR EYES and let us woo you. And for all you single girls out there, you will be wooed, every one of you, so just keep your eyes open and wait for us."

This is the anti-thesis of number 4. He is younger and has renewed hope in the female race. He also tries to reassure the nice girls waiting by the phone that they will get to be wooed. This comment needs no further explanation; it's pretty clear.

For a change of opinion:
Anon. Female: "I agree with the wooing suggestions. To all those guys who woo, great, keep on doing it. If it hasn't worked in the past, well, sorry like the blog says, the girl you are wooing is just a doo-doo head, or perhaps it just wasn't meant to be. But when you find a girl that is not a doo-doo head, or find a situation that is "meant to be" (if you believe in that kinda stuff) she will love you even more for it, I promise."

She's right, you know. She does also distinguish between the nice girls and the girls who aren't worth your time, as well as the fact that it may simply not be "meant to be". Yes, this does suck when the girl you've been watching while your heart beats harder and harder simply isn't interested. Even if she is not interested, but still a nice girl, she will thank you regardless. If she is just a doo-doo head (don't we love this scientific terminology?), you'll know. That's also what your friends are for. They'll notice, even if you don't.

I don't think that there is anything else to say for now, other than I'm interested to see what this next semester holds with all these girls waiting to be wooed and guys actually trying to woo them. Guys, think Fitzgerald. Classy, quiet, tactful. Girls, look for the like. I'm interested to see what methods of woo are discovered by the men of my blog.

I'm peachy.

if you're bored...

...and i know you are, watch these:

www.angryalien.com

they've added a bunch since the last time i posted this link.

i'm peachy.

updates!

updates all around:

1. There will be a "The art of woo...ing" entry, part 2. the response was overwhelming and I want it to be good.

2. in my entry about getting over things, i was confronted about it and i realized that for the most part, I am over that stuff. Also, the people I blamed for so long had nothing to do with what happened and were just part of the event, so sorry. I really just want everyone to be my friend and such.

3. the last month or so has been rough on me, personally. However, after my long (read: 3 hour) phone conversation with george (classy!), and the impending visit of one sara (wife!) allen, i'm in a great mood. also, i'm coming to philly the 10th and 11th and i would love to see EVERYONE! i hope i can do the forum thing on the 10th, and i would love to see pictures from jo anna's cruise (since i just went there last year), and see jess' new house, and see all my friends and family (which is the entire masque...believe me, i have the tree to prove it). Chris, since you read my blog now, you'd be happy and proud to know that your little one (pam...and i guess ang too) is an 11th generation masque baby straight from the top. i'm sure other kids are too, i just haven't connected their tree with the old trees yet.

4. FINALLY, if my calculations are correct, this year's inductions will be the 20th year of the way we do inductions (with the tree and such). the oldest year i have on the tree is 1987, so it stands to reason, right now. i would love to do something special for inductions. the tree is almost there. sigh.

that's all. comment!

i'm peachy!!

the art of woo...ing.

sara and i were discussing the other day (as we do everyday) how we'd like our next relationships to be (after she and i have a fight over the kid's private school...kidding). I decided that I would like to be wooed. yes, wooed. If you don't know what wooing is, either you should read on, or you should stop reading my blog because you're sad.

Wooing is the art of flirting that is classier than getting a girl drunk and asking her if she wants to make out in the bathroom of C-71. It is subtle. it's flowers, it's a gift, it's a compliment on something that she is wearing. it is walking her home and expecting nothing in return but a "thank you". it is the knight in shining armor mentality that has gone the way of...well, knights in shining armor. example:

Greg: Hello Marsha. my, you smell lovely tonight.
Marsha: well, thank you greg (blush), it's a new perfume i picked up. I'm glad you like it.
Greg: You're welcome. can i get you some wine, perhaps a soda?
Marsha: That would be lovely.
Greg: Oh! and here are some gardinia's that i picked for you out of my garden. They remind me of you.
Marsha: Are you gay?

kidding. it's that same idea. Marsha's just a bitch. Greg is a classy fellow. After they began seeing each other officially, the wooing must continue. Greg will write cute notes, emails, and the like. Marsha will respond! If a girl doesn't respond in writing to a note, she probably either hasn't been wooed before (these girls will be obvious), or is just a big doo doo head. Dump the later, go slow with the former. Men should find cute ways to present these items. Do not thrust a bunch of roses in her hands and hope the florist got all the thorns off. be clever. it's also not all about the gifts. just physical gestures that do not involve your tongues or lips, right away. I was wooed the last time. roses and a yoo-hoo kept me for a good two and half years (and i'm not complaining!).

Final note: Girls do not woo! We act ourselves and are polite. If a girl does not respond in a polite manner to your wooing, investigate other people. If you take the time to woo, you are too classy for her.

I'm not writing this as an ad or anything for myself. I'm just saying. It's my blog, dammit, i'll do what i want.

i'm peachy.

5.27.2006

get over it.

i need to get over a lot of things. i let them burn me up, but it's so stupid to let things get to me that i have no power over. list:

1. charlie brown
2. compromises i've made so that others get their way and i get something else.
3. guys and dolls (h.s.)
4. fame (h.s.)
5. zombie prom (h.s. sorta)
6. high school theatre as a whole (mainly the firing of kent mcneilly...)
7. people getting the things that want when they don't deserve it
8. middle school chorus
9. county chorus 9 - 11. (i was an alternate. right.)
10. annoucements in senior year.

there's probably more, but oh well. this is truely how petty i am.

i'm a petty peach.

ps: i saw kent today at artsfest. i missed him in junior and senior year. stupid overprotective parents and cheap high school.

the best days are the days you get mail!

refer to my title.

i love george j. rohonczy. he is awesome. i thought buying scrapbooking supplies could make a day red letter, but i was wrong. my red letter actually came in the mail, with red ink and everything.

that's really all. i'm getting ready for a scrapbooking festival this weekend. i now also have 4 scrapbooks because each year of college needs it's own book. :)

that's it. really.

i'm peachy!

online journals...

i heard from john today. well, not directly. through his online journal. it seems that he's having a good time on tour, so i'm happy that he's happy.

i have to take my sister some clothes at field day. she was helping at west creek hills elementary (where she and i went to school), and it's raining and she's freezing. :( then dad and i are going to lunch and to buy scrapbooking things. wee!

i'm peachy.

welcome to blogspot mark and liz (labyrinth and moulin rouge! respectively).

5.25.2006

The death of the livejournal....

when i was a freshman (which is getting longer and longer ago...), everyone in the masque had a livejournal. EVERYONE. that's how you found out that people were dating other people, who dumped who, who was depressed, etc. (for all the sophomores (2009), the masque was considerably angsty my freshman year, as you may have picked up on.). then some people (me, sara) switched to easy journal, which i found to be not so easy. finally i settled upon a blogspot, after a friend from home, gwen, and lou. perfect. now, everyone is getting one. it's kinda nice though, we can all keep up with each other over the summer.

i had a dream last night that pam and anthony got married in my crazy neighbors house. it was a very very weird dream. beautiful wedding, minus the location, but weird dream.

sorry to many that i went to bed early last night. i was ready to crawl into bed and eat hard pretzels at like, 10:30. many apologies to the wife. i haven't talked to you in like, 2 days. it's not good.

finally, i have been working all the time on the masque personell records. i would enlist help here, but i have the complete information for most of the people who i still talk to. it's going to look fantastic when it's all done (the tree is amazing. however, if i find out that one more obscure person was inducted into the masque, i'm going to cut someone). :)

well, that's really it. i have a lot to do today, so i'll see you all later.

i'm peachy!!

5.23.2006

trees aren't pretty.

lately i've been working hard on the masque tree. i have A LOT done. i also found a place to get it copied on one piece of paper. woo! i'm also getting ready to start making the alumni mailing. i'm very nervous about that.

i wish more people had blogs and updated them more often. i love looking at people's blogs and commenting.

that's all. if you are an alumni, please check the board and answer some questions. it would be a big help. :D

i'm peachy!

ps: today on oprah, she mentioned follow your bliss..and it was right after i got off the phone with jess. spooky.

to the english majors

sorry. herman melville. i weep for my stupidity.

i'm peachy.

5.22.2006

new stuff

i hope you all like the new layout. it was suggested by sara allen. good idea, wifey.

if you want your movie to change...tough noogies. kidding, just tell me what movie you want to be.

that's all

i'm peachy.

batons and greeting cards.

well, life here in enola isn't half bad. i'm keeping myself occupied and i just started work today in the fast paced, exciting world of greeting cards. on that same note, i can safely say that i'm among the most attractive people working at the hallmark store. it's not hard.

i finally installed my little tv in my bedroom.

on another note, i now hate leaving my bedroom. it's comfy and cozy. and it has a tv!!

i'm working diligently on a masque tree for the seniors. maybe if SOMEONE would send me her tree, i would be set. (she knows who she is...MAMMA.)

that's it. i just wanted to update...like some others should!

love to all.

i'm peachy.

why does this read like a hemmingway novel?

call me ishmael. (sorry to english majors).

5.20.2006

so, it's not so bad....

i got a job at hallmark house of cards. woo!

sara is coming to visit (probably...as long as my parents say yes) very soon. a party will ensue.

last night i went to cornerstone and saw: garrett, kevin, ryan drummond, alex chang (talk about flashbacks), nik shah and fred (who i was meeting there anyway), and nathan. i heart cornerstone.

this morning i went to the farmer's market with megan and lettie. i bought books, jellybeans, cream soda, and scrapbooking paper. i'm an old woman.

tonight: di vinci code. according to my sister, there were protestors last night (she works at the theatre). i better get protestors tonight. i'll feel jipped.

that's really all. i'm fairly content. we'll see in a month. he comes home then...but sara should be here that weekend, so maybe it won't be so bad. :D

i miss my wifey...and all my other la salle people. drop me a line...or a comment. :)

i'm peachy!

5.15.2006

an encounter at the book store.

tonight i saw some friends of mine at the bookstore. they hadn't seen me in a while, but were aware of my current situation in my romantic life...well, life. it's really gone beyond romantic at this point. anyway, we were talking and finally she says "so, how are you doing?". i first replied that i was fine, but then i realized that i can't lie to them and i can't lie to myself. i'm not fine. i didn't cry, really, but they both sensed that i was emotional about the whole thing. they didn't really need explanation, although i tried (and failed miserably).

tomorrow he gets on a plane and goes away for two weeks. he's coming back in june. well, back home. he's not coming back to me. he's going to get over me and find some girl who won't hurt him. she will be a very lucky person. i fear that i will not be that lucky girl. i feel like i should be that lucky girl, but i screwed everything up. that weekend was emotional and hard for me, and if it had been anyother weekend, or even a few hours later, everything would be fine. i've made such a big mistake. my heart says that i still love him, and he loves me but he doesn't want me for a long while, if ever again.

i can't really talk to my family about this. or my friends, i've exhausted them all enough with my drama. but i think you all know how i am when someone i care about steps on a plane. i wish i had just told him how i feel, but it wouldn't be right. he needs to heal. i need to be slapped upside the head. everything i look at reminds me of him. when i was at the bookstore, i was waiting in line and just looking around trying to occupy myself. everybook i looked at was a book that either i had bought for him (the zombie survival guide, peter pan) or simply reminded me of him (marilyn monroe coffee table book, dungeons and dragon's guide, leon uris' trinity, the lord of the rings). everything i do reminds me of him. i was watching grey's anatomy and i thought to myself, "we used to watch this last summer under a blanket on his sofa...". we used to spend hours at the bookstores as dates because it was cheap and we both liked being there. even being in my car reminds me of him. i kept thinking "should i be picking him up to go somewhere?". and then the encounter at the bookstore. i went to their wedding with him. we danced and had a great time. then we went to see a movie with his siblings afterward. i was supposed to go to another wedding with him this year. i was hoping to go to lots of weddings with him in the coming years.

i hate being home. it's not really home. nowhere is home anymore for me because he won't be there. junior year doesn't start for three and half months. i don't know how i'm going to take it. i'm afraid of what my life will be like without him as involved. no one knows me as well (sorry sara.). and i can't blame anyone but myself. i deserve to be alone...he doesn't.

i guess i have to start praying. really hard.

5.12.2006

le sigh....

so, it's been quite a week. i've spent most of it fighting with my allergies in the prop room (which looks b-e-a-utiful, if i do say so myself). Tomorrow is more records stuff and finishing things for the summer in the office. Hopefully I'll see my Mama on Saturday before I go home.

I do not want to go home. It's going to be even worse than last summer. There are a number of reasons, but one of them is that most of my friends will be completely unavailable to me either by physical distance, emotional distance, or they simply do not want to be around me. It looks like I'll be spending summer 2006 with my parents...again. Don't get me wrong, they're fun people. But what 20 year old with a car and no curfew wants to be carted around by her parents and their friends while your 17 year old sister has a healthy social life?

It's been two days since I've talked to John. This makes me very sad, and I wish it all didn't have to be this way. But he wants time to heal, and I have to accept that. I want him to heal, but I wish it didn't mean being cut off from him. This will also make summer more diffucult. Even though we weren't together last summer, we could still spend one-on-one time. I know it won't be that way this summer and that's not good for me. He was one of the only people that would hang out with me. No one else called me up. He wanted to be around me. I feel like I have to beg other people at home to spend time with me, but he wanted to. With the way I've been acting, I have a feeling no one will now.

sigh...sorry for the pitty party. No one who really reads this can do anything about it anyway.

meh.

An Observation and a Proclamation

Observation: Finesse Mitchell (aka, the black guy on SNL who was NOT on All That) is not funny. In fact...he's not even a good actor. He makes me want to charge Lorne Michaels on the street and demand to know what drug he was on when he made the decision to cast Mitchell. I'll actually walk away from the TV set when he comes on. He's that bad. He's not even bad in a funny way. Just in an offense to all people who like comedy way. I'm not the only one who feels this way. Jess does too.

Proclamation: Yesterday I bought this book entitled "This Book Will Change Your Life", in which every day holds a new and interesting task. It was $18. Today's tasks are simple to help me ease into the book. There is a list of tasks i have to choose from, so today i will:

1. Bookmark a new website (check)
2. Have a mini-beauty pagent between my toes (middle toe, both feet...check).
3. Insult an insect
4. Jaywalk in a pedestrain zone (it's not hard at la salle.)
5. Go on a one minute hunger strike

that is all.

i'm peachy.

5.01.2006

Saying Good-bye.

basically all i did was say good-bye this weekend. kiss the wall was 17 hours, but it was worth every minute. i cried and cried and slept and cried. the actual kissing of the wall was the hardest part for me, so i can't imagine how hard it was for the seniors. afterwards, we went to the llanarch diner. meh. not impressed.

then, i said good-bye to john. for a very long time. it's necessary, we've just drifted apart. i've changed a lot in the last year. i'm very sorry that i hurt him, twice. i feel like a pretty terrible person, but it was time to be done with our relationship.

masque formal was pretty fun, actually. lots of good food, good music (even if the DJ didn't have rod stewart!), and good people. i was upset at the formal and anthony, pat, jess, ali, dave, joe, and all my other friends really made sure that i was out on the floor dancing, because let's face it...i love to dance like an idiot in front of other people.

This picture is of me, my masque baby doug and my masque mom, jess. these two people did the littlest things to make me feel a little bit better. this is jess and i last year. what a difference a year makes. really.

after this weekend, to put it all briefly, my heart hurts in so many ways.

i'm peachy.
